nemaThe National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on how to effectively coordinate the activities of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

The MoU was signed after a meeting between NEMA officials and the Yobe SEMA under the watchful eyes of the Yobe State Deputy Governor, Abubakar Aliyu, who is the chairman of the resettlement of IDPs in the state.

At the end of a closed door meeting in Damaturu the Yobe State capital, the Director of Search and Rescue at NEMA, Air Vice Marshal Charles Otegbade and the Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Idi Jidawa, told newsmen that NEMA would henceforth provide food for the IDPs while SEMA on the other hand would make available condiments that will complement the foods supplied to displaced persons.

The decision to share responsibilities, according to them, was aimed at avoiding duplication of responsibilities among the two agencies.

NEMA and SEMA said that while the shared responsibilities are being carried out, the State Emergency Management Agency would continue to coordinate various assistance brought to the IDPs by different Non-Governmental Agencies (NGO).

The Boko Haram insurgency has over the years displaced several people across the northeast geopolitical zone of the country attracting the attention of NEMA, SEMA and other international donor agencies.

Yobe has two formal camps and six informal camps in Damaturu the state capital with some others spread across the state.
