OgunThe government of Ogun State has granted pardon to some persons who renounced their membership to different cult groups.

The 25 cult members including students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and artisans were given amnesty by the Ogun State Police Command on the instruction of the State government.

While addressing them at a ceremony, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, warned youths against drug abuse and bad gangs identified to be the root cause of cultism.

Also launching the re-branded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Mr Ali warned officers and men of the command against excessive use of force, human rights violation and misuse of firearms which had resulted in the loss of many innocent lives.

The Commanding Officer of the Ogun State SARS, Bode Ojajuni, expressed optimism that the improvement would aid efforts to tackle insecurity in the state, such as the menace of armed robbery and kidnapping among others.

Cult activities in and around Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu-North Local Government of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria have led to loss of many innocent lives in recent times while robbery activities have been on the increase.
