SpeakerThe Speaker of the House of Representatives has expressed sadness over the death of the Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I.

Honourable Yakubu Dogara expressed his sadness on Wednesday in a statement issued by his special adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Turaki Hassan.

He extended his condolence to the family of the deceased monarch, the people of Ibadan and Oyo State as a whole.

Wise Counsel

The Speaker noted that though the late revered monarch could be said to have lived to a ripe old age, his death was a loss to Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria, saying that his wise counsel can no longer be sought in matters related to moving the nation forward.

The Speaker prayed that God would grant him eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the big loss.

Having mounted the throne in 2007, as the 39th Olubadan of Ibadan Land, the late monarch passed away on Tuesday evening at age 101.

He was the 17th Olubadan since the title was elevated from Baale Ibadan to the Olubadan in 1930.
