The Ondo State government is set to partner with the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in the area of processing and export of cocoa and some other agricultural commodities.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NEPC, Segun Awolowo (Junior), was in Ondo State to meet with Governor Olusegun Mimiko and the relevant stakeholders in the sector towards realising the said objective.
Speaking at the meeting on Wednesday, Governor Mimiko called for partnership with the Federal government and corporate organisations in improving the production of cocoa and other agricultural commodities.
He emphasised the need to complete and put to use, the Akure airport which is a cargo airport in handling commodities for export.
Cocoa is Nigeria’s second largest export product and Ondo State in Nigeria’s southwest region and the largest cocoa producing state in the country.
Hence, there is need to improve on its production and export, especially at the period where there is a fall in the price of crude oil in the international market.
