Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has resigned his role as chief Coach of the senior men’s national team with immediate effect.
In a letter sent to the Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday, Oliseh tendered his resignation and thanked the NFF for the opportunity to serve the country as a player and coach.
Oliseh, who took over the Super Eagles job in July 2015, led the team to 14 international assignments and lost just two.
One of the major talking points of his seven month career as coach of the Super Eagles was his misunderstanding with Vincent Enyeama, which eventually forced the goalkeeper to quit international football.
After Nigeria’s exit from the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, Coach Oliseh in an online recording, described his critics as insane and accused some ex-internationals as part of the problem affecting the development of Nigerian football.
In an interview with Channels Television, president of Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick described Oliseh’s resignation as a rude shock.
“This is happening at a very wrong time. Just when I was thinking, the NFF is getting it right with the coach and now this is happening. We just paid owed allowances and getting ready for the crucial game against Egypt. This is not good for our football”.
Pinnick says the federation will stay focused and expressed confidence in the abilities of assistant coaches Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu.
”Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu are dedicated Nigerians and they understand the mission at hand. If we have time, we will get someone to work with them, but at the moment, I am confident they can lead the team to success”.
Nigeria will play Egypt in a Cup of Nations qualifying game on March 25 in Kaduna.
