Announcing the new development to political parties and security agencies on Tuesday, at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Lawrence Azubuike, said the postponement is as a result of a directive from the National Headquarters of the Commission.

He added that the election has been put on hold due to a court order which made provision for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to be accommodated in the election.

For the All Progressives Grand Alliance, whose candidate has been campaigning intensively for the March 5th Date, the news came as a shock but the state chairman, Mr Nobert Obi, maintained that the party was sure of victory any day the election is conducted.
