NHRCThe National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concerns over the increasing cases of violence against women and the girl-child.

This came as Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the International Women’s Day.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Bem Angwe, said that it was regrettable that despite government’s efforts and the various campaigns by the commission to end all forms of domestic violence particularly against women and girls, domestic violence is on the increase in the country.

He said that the fight against discrimination and violence against women would continue to be a top priority of the federal government and the National Human Rights Commission as persons engaged in such violent acts will be made to face the full weight of the law.
