PoliceThe Nigeria Police Force say it will not compromise on anything that will cause breach of peace, unruly conduct and any other act likely to cause a breakdown of law and order.

The Police’s statement is part of preparations ahead of Saturday’s rerun election in Yakurr II Local Government Area of Cross River State in southern Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Henry Fadairo, made the call at a meeting with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all political parties and stakeholders where they signed the peace accord.

Mr Fadairo appealed to all political stakeholders that are directly or indirectly involved in the election to play the game according to the rules or face the full wrath of the law.

According to him, it became necessary to sign the accord as a binding agreement that there would be no breakdown of law and order before, during and after the elections in the five wards of Yakurr II.

The Police Commissioner warned that the law would be no respecter of anybody, no matter how highly placed, stressing that political activities will effectively accommodate the interest of all without undermining the fundamental rights of citizens.

On issues bothering on security, Fadairo disclosed that the Cross River State Police Command had trained and mobilised adequate Policemen that would provide security in the 65 polling units where the rerun would be held.

He added that the force would also ensure restriction of movement in the affected areas to prevent hoodlums from gaining access to electoral materials.
