A ghastly motor accident has claimed the lives of two commuters along the Akure-Owo Federal Highway in southwest Nigeria.
The accident, which occurred when it was raining at about 6:30PM on Sunday, involved a tanker filled with diesel and two other commuter vehicles.
The tanker lost control and hit the two cars from behind. One of the cars was said to be empty while the other one was crushed with the two passengers in it.
Some of the sympathisers who spoke to Channels Television at the scene of the accident lamented the high rate of accidents in the area.
While some of the residents called for the dualisation of the road, others asked for speed breakers to be constructed on the road.
They noted that very close to the scene is the Federal Government Girls’ College, Akure where travellers going to Ikare, Abuja and other towns on the route usually stand to get quick cabs.
While confirming the mishap, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Femi Joseph, said that the accident is being investigated.
He added that the victims were yet to be identified and appealed to members of the public whose relations are missing to contact Police authorities.
