The Nigeria Police Force has started the construction of a new Divisional Police Station in Nkpologu, near Nimbo community in Enugu State attacked by suspected herdsmen on Monday.
According to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, the station would increase security presence in the area and help prevent further attacks.
Mr Arase visited Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu on Wednesday, where he condemned the attack on the community that left scores dead.
Mr Arase’s visit to the community to commiserate with them over the incident, came the same day President Buhari ordered security agencies in Nigeria to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
He assured the people that he was in Nimbo to conduct on the spot assessment of the situation and subsequently plan on how to find a permanent solution to the scourge.
He was accompanied by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwodibo Ekechukwu and other top police officers who assisted in showing the Police Boss the wreckage of the attack.
His visit also offered the residents an opportunity to lay their complaints.
He informed reporters of the new Divisional Police Station in Nkpologu community, a stone throw to Nimbo community and urged the community members, especially the youths, to be vigilant and collaborate with the relevant law enforcement agencies in their area.
According to him, such collaboration will ensure that no further incursions into their community are made.
Buffer Zones As Solution
The Police boss also assured the community residents that the law was no respecter of persons, colour, ethnic tribe or religion, as the perpetrators of the crime would be brought to book.
“The death of one person diminishes humanity and I can assure every Nigerian that nobody takes the life of any other Nigerian and goes free with it,” the Inspector General said.
Mr Arase had told Channels Television on Monday that setting up a buffer zone in the boundaries of states that prone to attacks would reduce the chances of attacks.
“I have suggested to Nasarawa and Benue States Governors that the crisis are seasonal outburst. We can already identify the boundaries where it happens. Is it not possible to have a buffer zone? We can secure that place permanently but there is a cost implication.
“The buffer zone will become a force to contend with before access would be gained into the other side,” he said while giving an update on what the police were doing to end the attacks.
