Fresh Attack Occurs In Nasarawa State

Another attack has occurred in Adeyi Village in Loko Development Area of Nasarawa State, resulting to the death of 83 cows and some others injured.

The Nasarawa Police Public Relations Officer, Ismaila Numan, confirmed the attack on Monday.

He told reporters that investigations were on and called on the people of the village not to take laws into their hands.

Mr Numan also said the perpetrators were yet unknown.

Adeyi Village is a riverine community with residents who are mostly fishermen.

The village has a number of herdsmen who reside there with their families and they carry out their activities peacefully.

Residents believe it was a reprisal attack from the Agatus of Benue State.

The Director Personnel Management of Loko Development Area, Danlami Ibrahim, claimed the Agatus were attacking them for harbouring the Fulanis.

He said recent attacks in the area had affected their fishing activities and appealed to both governors of Benue and Nasarawa States to take swift action to check the attacks ‘before it gets out of hand’.

The owner of the cow, Bajoga Muhammed, who spoke in Hausa, gave an account of the incident and faulted the government for not adopting stringent measures.

Residents have, however, continued with their normal activities, as they await reactions from the government.

Agatu community was attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen some months and the police said it had made several arrests.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, had told Channels Television that the police was still investigating the attack.
