Policemen killed in BayelsaFour Nigerian policemen were ambushed and killed in south-south Bayelsa State.

The officers were killed around the Okobe community while traveling to Yenagoa, the capital of the oil producing state.

The state police public relations officer, Mr Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed the incident, explained that the policemen were ambushed by their assailants in the community in Ahoada West Local Government Area on the east-west road.

He said it was unclear who was behind the attack.

Mr Muhammed added that the officers were attached to the police mobile force in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The victims were said to be returning from Yobe State, where they had gone on a special duty, when they were attacked.

The killing of the policemen came days after militants attacked a Chevron platform in the Niger Delta region.

Chevron Nigeria Limited said its Okan offshore facility is currently shut-in and that it was assessing the situation, while resources had been deployed to respond to a resulting spill.

There have been rising attacks on oil pipelines and kidnappings in the Niger Delta, which produces much of Nigeria’s oil output.
