Ayade, Cross River, Waste ManagementThe Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade has appealed to residents of Cross River State to be patient with him as he is addressing the issue of proper waste disposal in line with the ‘clean and green’ vision of the state.

Ayade made the appeal in Calabar, Cross River State Capital when he embarked on an inspection of dump sites in the metropolis to have a first-hand knowledge of their present state.

According to the Governor, the inspection was part of the state government’s effort aimed at ensuring effective waste management in the state.

The Governor was pained at the site of what he saw at the Lemna dump site, located at Ikot Effanga Mkpa, few minutes away from the heart of Calabar which has served as the dumpsite since the previous administration.

He said that it was unacceptable and totally unhealthy for both wastes and human beings to coexist side by side. He immediately ordered bulldozers which were on ground to clear the site.

Residents in the area had raised an alarm over the natural menace caused by the dumpsite, where waste is usually washed out to their homes.

Ayade said, plans were on ground for his administration to partner with a team from Israel and Dublin to do the proper waste management that entails segregation and optimal utilization.

Ayade also visited Idundu, the proposed new dump site where he pleaded with Cross River residents to be patient with him as he begins the process of making the site available for waste disposal to commence properly.
