obianoThe Governor of Anambra State, Mr Willie Obiano, has inaugurated a second batch of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, with at least 200 members.

At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Obiano urged the officers to exhibit self-discipline and honesty in the discharge of their duties of maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the state.

The OCHA Brigade officers Batch B inauguration ceremony was held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

According to the Governor, the OCHA Brigade is an initiative that targets youth empowerment of the people and improvement of their welfare in the areas of environment and health while instituting, as a culture in the people, the habit of leading a safe life.

The cadets, who have been on training for six months on the norms and laws of the state in the area of environmental sanitation, were reminded by the Governor of their specific roles. He cautioned them against taking laws into their hands to victimise citizens.

Their role will be to enforce cleanliness and orderliness among residents while assisting the law enforcement agencies in facilitating the arrest, prosecution, and payment of fines from defaulters

The OCHA Brigade was inaugurated on 5 December, 2014 by Governor Willie Obiano, with all its activities backed by the law to maintain clean, healthy and orderly Anambra and to enforce compliance to the payment of various state taxes, duties and levies with the security agencies leading each operation.

Since the agency began operation, sanity has, to a reasonable extent, returned to the state and many more youths have been taken off the streets.
