The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has thrown its weight behind the freezing of Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose’s account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
SERAP argues that the act is lawful under Section 308 of the 1999 constitution, as well as the UN Convention against corruption, to which Nigeria is a state party.
A statement issued by SERAP’s Executive Director Adetokunbo Mumuni said freezing of the account is a preventive measure, necessary for the conduct of an effective investigation into allegations of corruption involving former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki.

SERAP adds that the freezing of accounts of sitting governors and other high-ranking public officials accused of corruption is essential for the flow of investigation, which is allowed under section 308.
