At a ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the state capital, the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, reiterated the commitment of his administration towards providing the much needed political will to sustain the programme.

According to Mr Amosun, who led the distribution of the card for the scheme, said the community based insurance scheme remained free for a particular set of people and the elderly, while other categories of beneficiaries are expected to pay a token to access the programme.

The occasion attracted pregnant women, nursing mothers, traditional rulers from several local government areas in the state.

Giving his remarks at the event, the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Femi Akingbade, who represented the Minister of Health commended the initiative by the state government.

He gave assurances that the federal government would continue to support it.

The programme was initiated and launched by the state in 2014 with its presence in eight local government areas of the state and is being scaled up to make it more efficient for effective service delivery.
