The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has inaugurated a four man panel of inquiry to investigate allegations of genocide and human rights violations leveled against the Nigerian Army by the people of Tarok Community of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Inaugurating the panel in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Bem Angwe, charged members of the panel to determine whether or not there have been acts of genocide, crime against humanity and wanton destruction of properties by officers of the Nigerian Army in Tarok community.
Professor Angwe also mandates the panel to ascertain the number of injured persons and those who lost their lives.
The panel chaired by Mrs Emily Herbert has Abdul Yakubu and Olanike Omodara as members while Mr Wahab Oyedokun is to serve as Secretary.
