Adams Oshiomhole, Workers, Minimum WageEdo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has advised workers not to allow any arm of government tinker with Nigeria’s national minimum wage due to economic recession.

The Governor noted that the average Nigerian worker is underpaid, adding that removing the minimum wage from the Exclusive List of the Federal Government would further impoverish the worker.

He made the call on Wednesday at a forum organised by the Kukah Centre‎ for Leadership in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Governor Oshiomhole described the non-payment of wages of the workers as a criminal breach of trust and urged employers of labour to ‎device ways of ensuring the regular payment of wages on a monthly basis.

In a lecture titled “From Activism To Political Power: The Challenges Of Democratic‎ Governance In Nigeria”, the Governor advocated for the retention of the national minimum wage to protect workers in the country.

The Chairman of the occasion and a former Governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke, asked Nigerians to interrogate the concept of change as advocated by the present administration.

Former Niger State Governor, Mr Babangida Aliyu, on his part called on the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to retrace his steps on sending civil servants to the farm.

The forum was convened to enable eminent Nigerians interact with other citizens on issues affecting the nation.
