Nigeria U-23 in Rio OlympicsSouth American’s Colombia defeated Nigeria 2-0 on Wednesday to qualify for the quarter final of the men’s football category.

The match, which was played at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, saw the African side make five changes to their regular starting line-up, as they had qualified for the quarter final after winning their first two games.

The South Americans broke the deadlock on the 4th minute through their captain, Teofilo Gutierrez as he pounced on a pass from Diego Pabon to knock it past Akpeyi.

Nigeria struggled to level the scores as the coach, Samson Siasia, made series of changes in the second half but those were not enough to pull a comeback for the African side.

Colombia cemented their win on the 63rd minute after goalkeeper, Akpeyi brought down Harold Preciado inside the box, Pabon slotted home from the penalty spot.

Nigeria, which topped the group with six points, had, after their game with Sweden, qualified for the quarter final.

Meanwhile, in the quarter final round, host nation, Brazil will face Colombia, South Korea face Honduras, Nigeria face Denmark and Portugal face Germany.
