‎Members of the parliament representing the three senatorial districts in Osun State made the demand on Wednesday while addressing a press conference in Osogbo, the capital of the state ahead of the 2016 “International Youth Day”.

‎One of the youth representatives from Osun West, Maruf Adewole, who commended the Federal Government for its intervention scheme, emphasised the need to stimulate the economy and create an enabling environment for national growth.

‎Embrace Agriculture

He also pointed out that Green Economy for Nigeria was achievable.

“Sustainable consumption, which entails the use of products and services that meet the basic needs of our communities while safeguarding the needs of the future generations has to be coupled with sustainable production using our locally available resources,” he stated.

The young Parliamentarians also urged the youths to take the future in their hands by embracing agriculture and entrepreneurship.

On the ongoing war against corruption in Nigeria, the youths lauded President Muhammed Buhari’s efforts at combating the menace, but warned against lopsided prosecution.

They also voiced their support for the passage of the “Not Too Young to Run Bill, the Yes We Can Bill And The Child Rights Act (Amendment) Bill”.

According to them, the bills would go a long way in making governance more inclusive and ensure that the dividends of democracy get to all citizens.

The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day is “The Road to 2030; Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption”.

Critics have warned that the increasing rate of youth unemployment posed a huge risk for the oil-rich nation if not addressed.
