Tanko Al-Makura, Nasarawa, LabourThe Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, has inaugurated a 29-man renegotiation committee that would arrive at a consensus between the government and the organised labour.

The inauguration is in line with a directive from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, following a face-off between the government and workers in the state.

After the inauguration, Governor Al-Makura directed the committee to submit its report in eight weeks.

The newly constituted committee is being chaired by the Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Mr Silas Agara.

Members of the committee are drawn from the state organised labour, the national headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and some members of the State Executive Council.

Meanwhile, shots were allegedly fired as the workers were waiting for the outcome of a meeting between Governor Al-Makura and the labour union, over the implementation of a new salary template, which prompted them to embark on an indefinite strike.

There were claims that the shots were fired by the police.

Two persons died from gunshot wounds, as a result of the alleged police shoot out at the gate of the Government House in Lafia, the state’s capital in north-central Nigeria.
