Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, NMMA, 2016 Entries The board of the Nigeria Media Merit Awards says the 2016 edition has received a very low turn out of applications from media organisations, especially the television industry.

Chairman of the panel of assessors, Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye frowned at the low turnout. “Editors tell your people to be proud of their work and submit them in for the competition,” he told newsmen.

This year’s event which marks the 24th edition of rewarding quality and excellence in the country’s media world, saw a total of 886 entries.

However, due to a funding gap, the board said the ceremony could not accommodate 10 categories which included: television and radio production among others, as it could only fund 43 entries.

According to them, “we’ve been sponsoring a number of categories from our own resources, now we can’t afford to do so this year”.

Nevertheless, the non-governmental body gave the assurance that the 2016 competition would not fall short of proper screening despite the economic and financial restraints.
