The Anambra State government and a private company, Business Link Limited, are partnering to contain the challenge of poor parking lots for both private and commercial vehicles in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government.
Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the management of the company, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, says the project will decongest the ever traffic jam area, displace miscreants hanging around the area and encourage sanitation.
Traffic congestion, environment littered with refuse, street trading, random and reckless parking of vehicles by some motorists are all daily sights around and under the flyover bridge at Nkpor New Parts Market, in Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Before the present administration of Governor Obiano, it also used to be the den of criminals who snatch bags and extort money from motorists and cyclists.
But the growing concern over the daily chaos and poor sanitary condition in the area moved the state government to seek private partnership to undertake the construction of an ultra-modern park that could accommodate at least one hundred vehicles under the Flyover Bridge.
Speaking about the project the Managing Director of Anambra State’s Investment Protection and Promotion Agency (ANSIPPA) Mr Joe-Billy Ekwunife, noted that the project at completion, would create 30 direct jobs, 80 indirect jobs, increase revenue and improve the aesthetics of the area.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr Ralph Nnabuife, assured the Governor that the project would be completed at the contractual four-month time frame.
He says it will go a long way to showcase Anambra as a state where cleanliness and orderliness is paramount.
For the governor, the revenue sharing formula for the first six years is 60% for the company and 40% to Anambra state, but will be subsequently changed to 50% for all for three years wherein the contract would be subject to review.
Mr Nnabuife says he is committed to actualising the project within the stipulated time as his company has all it takes to transform the Nkpor flyover to an ultra-modern park.
