Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, has blown up a pipeline in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
A source at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta confirmed the attack.
He said that the bombing was carried out at about 4:00am on Tuesday and destroyed the Chevron Escravos Export Pipeline at Escravos offshore.
There has been relative peace in the Niger Delta region for few months with different groups asking the Federal Government to dialogue with the militants.
The Avengers are the prominent militants in the oil-rich region, claiming responsibility for most of the recent attacks on the oil facilities.
The chain of attacks on pipeline has drastically affected Nigeria’s economy in the face of its recession.
The group had declared in August that it was halting hostilities to pursue talks with the government.
They said they expected a genuine and positive attitude to restructuring and self-determination for every component unit of Nigeria.
In an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, written after they agreed to ceasefire, the militants pointed out that they had “listened carefully and halted hostilities” in the region.
However, they claimed that ongoing military operations in the creeks of Ijaw communities were pre-determined genocide in Niger Delta and were capable of jeopardizing the chances of achieving permanent peace.
