booksThe Ekiti State government on Monday distributed the 2015 School Based Management Committee (SBMC) learning materials to public and private primary schools under the state’s Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP).

Handing out the materials, Governor Ayodele Fayose reiterated his administration’s resolve to ensure that the state continued to excel and maintain first position in external examinations.

The distribution of the materials was held at the SUBEB Playing Ground, in Ado Ekiti, the capital of the south-western Nigerian state.

State Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP) is a World Bank Assisted Programme in three pilot states of Ekiti, Anambra and Bauchi.

Governor Fayose while presenting the school based management committee learning materials to cover 120 schools in the state, promised that such materials would be made available to all other public and private schools in the state.

Addressing reporters in Ado Ekiti, the state’s capital, the governor stressed the need for pupils, parents and teachers to imbibe the culture of good hygiene in school and at home.

“We will make funds and other logistics available for the purchase of hand washing basins in schools,” he promised.

On his part, the President of the Association of Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, Mr Biodun Omotoso, commended the state government for the materials distributed.

“We are grateful to Governor Fayose for the good work he is doing in the education sector, to maintain the first position. We teachers must also put in our best to ensure our pupils are lectured properly,” he stated.

Amongst materials distributed were compendium of past questions and answers, mathematical sets, packets of chalk, graph and exercise books.

Efforts of the state government in the education sector became visible in september when the ranking of the National Examination Council (NECO) in the last June/July 2016 senior secondary students’ examination showed that Ekiti topped the other states in Nigeria.

The feat triggered a visit to the state’s governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose by stakeholders in the education sector in Ekiti State, including members of the all Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools.

The various leaders of the sectors described the feat achieved by the State as a manifestation of Governor Fayose’s proactive steps to reposition and improve the standard of education in the state.
