Lagos-Ibadan, FRSC

Lagos-Ibadan, FRSCFriday has been a day of heavy gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, owing to the ongoing reconstruction work on the road and the closure of some portions of the road.

As a result, the Federal Road Safety Corps is asking motorists and other road users to cooperate with the agency to address their plight on the road and reduce their travel time.

This is according to FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, who is in Lagos to monitor the management of the heavy traffic witnessed on the highway.

“Construction work is going on on Lagos-Ibadan express and two days ago we issued a traffic alert in respect of the partial closure of a section of the road from the Shagamu interchange coming towards Lagos.

“The essence of this is that the construction company wants to do the final asphalt overlay of the road and they need to partially close that section which is just five kilometres.

“We are moving towards the dry season, the tempo of work has increased and the construction company has asked for support from both the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and the FRSC to enable them do the correct thing so that they can increase the pace of work.

“We want to appeal to the public to bear with this development because when the road is closed there will be some strain.

“Road users need to plan their journeys and with the peak period like this, what we require is understanding from road users. By next year the road will be in a better shape,” he said.
