Nyesom Wike, Christian Leaders, Rivers StateRivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has called on Christian leaders to ensure that their activities do not impede the day to day activities of the people.

The governor made the call at a meeting with church leaders from the Niger Delta in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He stressed that the church is the example of discipline and asked the clergymen to control their activities in that light.

Governor Wike said the idea of holding programmes that spill over to block government roads without approval should be discouraged.

He proposed the inclusion of traffic department in churches and asked the clerics to consent the government before holding a programme to ensure prompt awareness of the public.

“God didn’t say that if we have a church we should not organise ourselves, we must (and) part of it is to obey rules.

“It is good that government should let you know that we are willing to partner with you but we should also obey simple rules,” he said.

On his part, the Archbishop of Niger Delta Province, Most Reverend Ignatius Kattey, assured the governor of abiding by the laws of the state.

He added that they would continue to partner with the government to ensure the development of the state in south-south Nigeria.
