NEMA, IDPs, Nutritional SupplementsThe Director of Relief and Rehabilitation at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Fagbemi Kayode has revealed plans to establish an operational office in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

Mr Kayode disclosed this after presenting relief materials to internally displaced persons at the International Christian Centre in Uhogua, Ovia Northeast Local Government Area of the state.

The proposed NEMA operations office in Benin City will handle disaster victims from Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states.

Mr Kayode acknowledged the basic facilities required in managing a camp.

He emphasized the need for improved water sanitation, the need for better hygiene and educational facilities.

“So the person coming or the people coming will be able to support them and guide them,” he said.

In his response, the overseer of the facility, Pastor Folorunsho Solomon, called for the federal government’s intervention over items meant for the centre still being held at the ports in Lagos.

“There are other persons that want to help us, but they have problems shipping things to this place. We have a container there for more than one year, it has not been released to us and it is for these children.

“So, with your coming today, with you speaking to the DG, you have the power to get the container for these children because they are owners of the things that are there,” he said.
