Osun Will Conduct LG Election Before 2018 Election – APC Chairman

Yobe SIEC To Hold LG Poll in February 2017, election observer, welfare, security personnel, Edo electionThe Yobe state Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) will conduct elections into the 17 Local Governments of the state on February 11, 2017.

The decision was reached in a stakeholders meeting held at the commission’s office in Damaturu the state capital.

The meeting, which was presided over by the Executive Chairman of the commission, Mohammed Jauro, had in attendance various political parties, security agents, and the media among others.

It deliberated on some key issues that will ensure free, fair and credible elections.

Addressing stakeholders at the meeting, Mr Mohammed Jauro, said that the meeting was in line with the provision of the electoral time table which recommends that interested parties meet at least 90 days before the election.

It affords the stakeholders the opportunity to scrutinize the election time table, days for submission of nomination forms, compilation of lists of candidates, verification of the substituted candidates by the commission among others as presented by the commission.

The Executive chairman urged the stakeholders to give their all by mobilizing their followers along the line of peace for a hitch-free exercise.

“To conduct a free and fair election, we need a serine environment and a level ground by following the rules of the game

“This is why we all gathered here as stakeholders in this game to rub minds and freely discuss ways and means of conducting smooth, free, fair and credible election in all the 17 Local Government Councils in the state” Mr Jauro said.

He commended the improved security situation and called on security agents to continue to maintain law and order for the success of the election.

He praised the roles exhibited by the stakeholders and expressed confidence that the commission would hold the best election ever.

Some of the stakeholders Umar Kukuri, Babayo Madugu and Adamu Chilariye in a chat with Channels Television lauded the commission’s efforts for the timely arrangement of the meeting in line with the Electoral Act.

They promised to mobilize their followers towards the maintenance of absolute peace before, during and after the election.
