Senate President, CCT, SarakiThe Nigerian Senate President is pushing for the use of Aso-Oke, a popular fabric in western Nigeria, as material for school pupil’s caps and cardigans.

Dr. Bukola Saraki, made the proposal in a tweet on his Twitter page on Sunday.

He says, “with this, we would have generated hundreds of thousands of jobs and generate enough revenue for our state and the country and large”.bukola-saraki-on-aso-oke

Dr. Saraki is pushing for the use of the popular material at a time that the Senate is promoting patronage for made in Nigeria goods.

The statement is coming few days after the Senate warned government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) to adhere to the provisions of the Procurement Act that mandated them to give priority to made in Nigeria goods.

The Senate says it will come down hard on any MDAs which violates the law.

Senate President Bukola Saraki gave the warning on Friday at a meeting with members of Leather and Allied Products Manufacturers Association of Abia State.

He further urged Nigerians to support the ‘Buy Naija’ drive to grow the Naira.

The nation’s economy officially slipped into recession, as indicated by a second quarter report of the National Bureau of Statistics, with the nation’s Gross Domestic Product contracting by 2.06%.

The Naira has continued on a weak glide against the dollar, since the nation rely mostly on imported goods.
