Los Angeles galaxy, Steven GerrardMajor League Soccer (MLS) club, Los Angeles Galaxy, has confirmed that former England and Liverpool Captain, Steven Gerrard, will not return to the club for the 2017 season.

Gerrard has been playing for the Galaxy for the past 18 months following his exit from boyhood club, Liverpool but hinted earlier this week that his time in the United States was coming to an end.

He has scored five goals and provided 14 assists in 34 appearances during the MLS regular season after a high-profile, drawn-out departure from boyhood club Liverpool in 2015.

L.A Galaxy however confirmed that the 36-year-old player’s contract is soon coming to an end.

Head Coach for the Club, Bruce Arena, said after the loss, that he hoped Gerrard would stay in California for another season, while sources told ESPN FC that the former Liverpool captain has intentions to prolong his playing career.

He however took to his Instagram account on Sunday, where he said: “I will miss you LA” while writing a lenghtier farewell on the Galaxy’s website in confirming his exit.

Part of the farewell read: “when I left Liverpool, I came to Los Angeles with the goal of helping the Galaxy lift another MLS Cup.

“I am of course disappointed to have not achieved that objective, but I can look back at my time at the club with pride at what we accomplished, including two straight playoff appearances and countless memorable moments on the pitch.
