Members of the Islamic movement of Nigeria have accused the police of using poisoned bullets and tear gas against its people during the last Monday’s clash.
Addressing a news conference today, leader of the movement in Kano Sheikh Sanusi Abdulkadir says doctor’s investigations confirmed that the bullet and tear gas used by the police are poisoned.
On November 13, 2016, members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria clashed with operatives of the Nigeria Police attached to Kano command leading to the death of one police officer and at least eight members of the movement.
Four police officers and more than 100 members of the Shi’a group were said to have been injured.
Since then, the once peaceful police/Shiites relationship became soar and blames continue to be traded between the two parties.
In a fresh reaction to the recent display of weapons allegedly belonging to the Shiites by the police, leader of the group in Sheikh Sanusi Abdulkadir says he has reason to believe that police uses poisoned bullets and tear gas on his members.
Although Kano police described the Shiites procession as unapproved and illegal religious rally, but Sanusi says the group wrote a letter to the police four days before they embarked on their annual Arba’een trek, unfortunately, the command did not give approval but the Shiites went ahead with their procession, consequences of which led to the incident.
Meanwhile, the group is asking for unconditional release of their members who were allegedly killed by the police and those they say are still in police custody.
