Willie Obiano, Streetlight, Anambra stateNight drive in Anambra state just got safer as the State Governor, Willie Obiano, has switched on a 6.7 kilometer streetlight project from Agu-Awka Axis to Amansea near the boundary between Enugu and Anambra states.

The street lights which stretches along the Enugu-Onitsha Old Road, will be powered by gas and by the national grid.

It brings to a total, 82.6 kilometers of street lighting being achieved in the ongoing first phase of the project called ‘Operation Light Up Anambra’.

The Governor gave further assurances of security to complement the infrastructural development on ground in the state.

“When I assumed office two and a half year ago, we had challenges here. People were not coming home (because) there were security challenges.

There were no streetlights in most places. As a matter of fact in 90% of the places but we tackled security (first) and today Anambra is the safest place in Nigeria.

“This Christmas is going to be the biggest Christmas ever celebrated here as there will not be any security challenge. Air, land and sea have been cleared,” he said.

Governor Obiano also commended citizens, particularly residents of the state who have supported the development of the state.

He encouraged more Anambra people to emulate those who have led the way in supporting government to make Anambra a modern state.

“You know this is a time of recession but within that recession we still have people who have money that can help the government because they believe in what we are doing,” he said.

Community leaders commended the Governor for the development and reiterated the message of the government for all citizens of Anambra to visit home for Christmas as every structure that will ensure an eventful celebration has been put in place.
