bayelsaThe Bayelsa State Executive Council has ratified the 2017 budget proposal to be christened, “Budget of Harnessing Our Full Potentials”.

It is billed to be forwarded to the State House of Assembly in the coming week for consideration.

The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Joshua Ongori, who addressed journalists shortly after on the outcome of the 68th State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chambers in the Government House, Yenagoa, explained that, the budget process had already been completed by the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Hon. Dorgu, said council had approved the establishment of the School of Survey and Land Planning for the physical development of the state.

He explained that Bayelsans would be trained as Land and Town Planning Assistants to control development within Yenagoa and other major towns, in line with the state’s master plan.

Speaking in the same vein, Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Tubonah said, the Otuoke Central Water Scheme meant for 13 communities in the local government area had been handed over to the state government by the Federal government for proper management and that the council has approved a revolving loan scheme for the efficient running of the project, as water is essential to the well-being of the people.

Commissioner of Education, Deacon Fefegha, who also addressed the press noted that, the state government had set aside a special intervention fund for tertiary institutions in the state.

According to him, the council gave approval for the construction of a Senate building and 150 capacity auditorium for the Niger Delta University, Amassoma as well as 1,000 capacity auditorium for the University of Africa.
