FRSC To Prosecute Hit And Run Driver For Murder

The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Ismaila Kugu gave the assurance ‎in Ado-Ekiti, during an official flag-off campaign which was tagged ” Don’t Drink and Drive”

He said said the key objective of the campaign was to further sensitize all the residents, individuals, private drivers and drivers unions to avoid taking alcoholic drinks while driving on the road.

Mr Kugu said several researches have shown that most of the road crashes are caused by over speeding which were enhanced by alcohol drink taken by the drivers.

‎” As far as the FRSC is concerned, we are the leading agency in traffic management in Nigeria and that is why a campaign rally has been organised to prevent auto crashes in the ember month.

” The theme of the campaign is ” Crash the Crash” which signifies putting all hands on deck to stop road carnage or crashes.

” Ekiti command of FRSC is using this flag-off campaign to end the United Nations Remembrance Day for victims of road traffic crashes which always comes up annually on Nov.3,”he said.

The sector commander charged all road users especially both the private and commercial drivers to obey the traffic rules and regulation as well as afford drinking alcoholic drinks while driving.

He noted that anyone caught violating the traffic rules and regulations would be arrested and the victim’s vehicle, particulars and drivers license would be seized‎.

Mr Kugu thanked the state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose for his continue support for the FRSC by inaugurating a task force to ensure strict compliance to road traffic rules and regulations in Ekiti.

Reacting, the state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Works, Barr. Ademiloye Fashiku, commended the commitment of the FRSC to ensure safety of road users.

He said the state government would continue to cooperate with the agency to ensure that auto‎ crashes on both the state and the federal roads are prevented especially during the ember month.

Speaking on behalf of Ekiti drivers unions, ‎Mr Clement Adekola, commended the initiative of the FRSC for organising the campaign in order to stop drivers from drinking while driving.

He assured the FRSC sector commander and state governor, that his members would adhere strictly to the traffic rules and regulations.
