University of Uyo, UNIUYO Goes Tough On Land EncroachmentThe management of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has warned those illegally erecting structures on the land belonging to the permanent site of the university at Nsukara Offot in Uyo to reconsider their action as such structures will be pulled down.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Enefiok Essien, gave the warning in Uyo on Thursday while answering questions from journalists on his first year in office as the Vice Chancellor of the institution.

He said that the university is committed to the development of befitting structures and modern facilities at its permanent site to create a conducive environment for sound academic pursuit and development.

Prof Essien added that the provision of a peaceful environment, infrastructural development and staff training and welfare are priorities of his administration.

According to the Vice Chancellor, as part of efforts to boost staff morale for increased productivity, staff welfare has been accorded top priority by the management of the institution through regular staff training to ensure that they are up-to-date with modern global academic practice.

Noting that strikes are inimical to effective teaching and learning in Nigerian universities, Prof. Essien said that the last one year under his stewardship has enjoyed a steady academic calendar.

Nevertheless, the management is working hard to further improve the ranking of the institution in Nigeria and internationally.

Several projects expected to add value to teaching and learning are ongoing in the university.
