All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state has renewed the suspension of the senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Senator Shehu Sani to last indefinitely.
Senator Sani was slammed with an 11-months suspension by the party leadership in November 2015 but the suspension which elapsed on Tuesday, was renewed indefinitely by the APC ward 6 in Tudun Wada and endorsed by seven local government chairmen of the party that make up Kaduna Central Senatorial district.
A letter addressed to the embattled senator by his ward 6, says the earlier suspension was to enable the senator defend himself against the allegations levelled against him last year but he failed to do so.
“As you are aware, your suspension from the party for a period of 11 months elapsed today, being Tuesday 29th November, 2016,” the letter read.
“The suspension, which was in line with the constitution of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), was to enable you to defend yourself against illegalities committed by you against the party as well as breach of its constitution.
“We expected the period of your suspension to give you the grace of being remorseful, but you rather choose to play otherwise, and this made our party to be vulnerable to disunity, disharmony and further shattering the existing peace mechanism within our ward and the state at large.
“Therefore, in consideration of the constitutional provisions as contained in Article 21 (A) i, ii, iii, v, vi, and vii of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), you are hereby suspended indefinitely from active participation of APC activities.
“This is in conformity with article 21 (D) i-(F) which provides punishment for any erring member of the party.
“With this letter, you are hereby warned to abide by the party’s decision,” the party stated.
Allegations
The letter further stated: “We have received information from Ward 6 in Kaduna South LGA of our great party the APC, on the indefinite suspension of the erring Senator Shehu Sani from the party at those levels.
“Subsequently we wish to hereby endorse this suspension by the ward chapter for the following reasons:
- His adamant and perpetual disrespect of the party and its leaders by tarnishing their image and reputation with ridiculous allegations.
- His various attempts at causing divisions within the party in the state, by sponsoring frivolous petitions and trouble making.
III. His continuous refusal to show remorse for his actions and seek forgiveness from any level of the party in the state
- All these actions constitute serious offenses against the party as captured by article 21 section (A), sub sections i, ii, iii, v, vi and vii of the constitution.
“As the LGA Chapter chairmen of the seven local governments that make up the Kaduna Central Senatorial district, which the suspended Senator represents, we are witnesses to his continuous arrogance and trouble making.
“And we hereby vehemently ratify the suspension by his ward, as endorsed by the LGA and we recommend that the state party executive committee make haste in also endorsing this appropriate indefinite suspension.”
Politically Motivated
Reacting to his suspension, Senator Shehu Sani who spoke through his political adviser, Suleiman described the action as politically motivated.
He also accused the State Governor of being behind his suspension from the party.
“It is very obvious that these clowns are being sponsored, instigated and motivated by Uba Sani who himself appears to be on the instructions of the state governor.
“It is rather unfortunate that Governor Nasir El-Rufai has allowed himself to be deceived by his adviser Uba Sani who is using the office he occupies and the Governor to pursue his personal ambitions and vendetta.
“We have in our possession a picture Mallam Uba Sani posed with the miscreant that led the demonstration, destruction of property and intimidation of people in Tudun Wada some days ago. That picture was snapped when the said individual went and collected funds fron Uba Sani, funds meant for the organisation of violent riots and protests in Tudun Wada Kaduna.
“Even with the purported suspension, Senator Shehu Sani has been up and doing in the Senate, proposing and supporting bills that will bring succour to our people.
“With the overwhelming support Senator Shehu Sani enjoys from our people, a support that is direct result of his masses-oriented disposition, confronting him is like a rat standing before a moving train.
“Senator Sani remains a loyal APC member, who shall always abide by the good policies and manifesto of the party. No amount of intimidation, no amount of hired thugs and no amount of bogus suspension will stop him from fighting for the down trodden”.
