The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has assured organisers of the Port Harcourt Golden Jubilee Polo Tournament of the state government’s support.

He believes the tournament will positively impact the state’s economy.

The Polo Tournament will attract Polo players from Argentina, South Africa and Dubai.

Speaking on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Governor Wike noted that the game would place Rivers State on the international business map.

In his words: “We will support this International Polo Tournament because it will afford us the opportunity to highlight the potentials of the state to the international community.

He further stated that the tournament would also project Rivers State in positive light, with international sports and business personalities seeing firsthand the peace and security that drive the growth of the state.

He added that his administration would partner with Polo administrators to enhance the game.

Governor Wike urged the management of the Polo Club to shield themselves from politics.

Meanwhile, the President of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Mr Ibiwari Pepple, said that the Golden Jubilee Tournament would hold between January 8 and January 14, 2017.

Mr Pepple informed the governor that during the tournament, participating horses and players would be dressed in ceremonial attires to promote Rivers State.

The tournament, according to him, will enjoy wide coverage on Super sports, AIT and Channels Television because of its importance on the sporting calendar.
