The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has restated the commitment of his administration to facilitate the establishment of a industrial court in the state, to handle labour and industrial disputes.
Mr Obaseki made the statement at the valedictory court session for the outgoing Chief Judge Of Edo State, Justice Cromwell Idahosa, at the High Court in Benin city, the Edo state capital.
This is coming days after Justice Idahosa inaugurated the Multi-Door Court House in the state.
The government’s establishment of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, is expected to ensure speedy delivery of justice, as well as minimising delays.
The formal justice system has been identified as one that is sometimes intimidating, unfriendly as well as expensive but the new mechanism is said to be cheaper and would ensure harmony among litigants.
While stressing that the training of Judiciary staff is key to the success of the court, the Chief Judge also urged the Nigerian Bar Association to brace up to the alternative dispute resolution and process.
