Nigeria, Paris, climate change agreementNigeria’s Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, says the Federal Government is leading the fight against deforestation by suspending the issuance of permits for timber logging in Nigeria’s forests from January to March.

She said the Federal Government will roll out its deforestation policy within the time frame.

The Minister made this known while inaugurating an inter-ministerial committee on afforestation at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja.

The Minister decried the wrongful conversion of forestland into infrastructural corridors which she said had created an environmental emergency in the nation’s forestry profile.
