Herdsmen Kill One, Injure Three In Adamawa State

Herdsmen Kill One, Injure Three In Adamawa StateAt least eight people have been confirmed dead in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria following a clash between community members and suspected herdsmen in Rukumawa Tsafe Local Government Area.

The State Police Commissioner, Shaba Alkali, told journalists that the victims were on a reconciliatory mission on behalf of the district head of Tsafe but ambushed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Sources close to Zamfara state government told Channels Television that all the eight people sent by the district were killed by the suspected herdsmen.

The sources could not confirm if the state government was aware of any reconciliation between the two parties. Zamfara has been under increased attacks by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

In July 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari was at Zamfara to launch a special operation involving the Nigerian Armed Forces against cattle rustling, however killings and destruction of farm produced has not seen significant reduction.

An eyewitness told Channels Television’s correspondent, “What do we do, we hardly see our governor, he has not visited any of the affected communities.

“We are being killed, our villages being set on fire and the farm produce eaten by cows.”

The state government is yet to comment on the recent killings.
