The race kicked off at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos while the finish line was the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
Abraham Kiptum came first in the men’s category, with a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes 20 seconds and his counterparts Ronny Kipkoech Kiboss, came second in 2 hours, 15 minutes 25 seconds while Kiprotich Kiroi, completed the top three clocking 2 hours, 15 minutes, 28 seconds.
Women’s Category
In the women’s category, Kenyan athlete, Tanui Rodah emerged as the winner, in 2 hours, 37 minutes, 50 seconds and Fridah Lodepa came second with a time of 2 hours, 38 minutes, 21 seconds, leaving Alice Timbilili to complete the top three in 2 hours 39 minutes and 02 seconds.
2016 Win
In 2016, the Kenyan athlete,Abraham Kiptum won the maiden edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon race with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 19 seconds.
While Philibus Sharubutu was the first Nigerian to cross the finish line, he came second in the maiden edition, while in the women’s category, Halima Hussen of Ethiopia emerged first, with a time of 2 hours, 38 minutes and 36 seconds.
The Lagos Marathon race hosted over 20,000 local and international athletes.
The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, and other dignitaries were at the finish line.
