Customs Justifies Raid On Warehouses Suspected For Smuggled GoodsThe Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) says it will continue to intensify its ongoing crackdown on smugglers of goods into the country, in order to encourage local production that will boost the nation’s economy in line with the policy of the Federal Government.

The Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘C’, Muhammed Garba, stated this during an inspection of seized goods at the Customs House in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

Comptroller Garba said, “This is 600 bags of rice seized at Ewu junction on March 26. It has a duty paid value of 21 million 60 thousand Naira”.

He also described the interception of a truck fully loaded with fake drugs as significant.

“They are substandard; they have no label, so whenever we have this nature of seizure we hand them over to the appropriate agency for further investigations”.

The NCS also said it is using these confiscations to send a clear message of its preparedness to carry out its mandates in line with the Federal Government policy on importation.
