SchoolThe Nasarawa State Government is set to reposition science schools across the state through the provision of equipment which will aid effective teaching and learning.

The Commissioner of Education, Ahmed Tijjani, said this after a visit to the Government Science Schools in Obi and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas (LGAs).

He noted that the provision of new science equipment was imperative because of the obsolete state of equipment in the schools, which he said cannot give requisite output.

“The government will do something to ensure that we bridge the gap because I can see a very serious gap in terms of the equipment, the library and some of the structures, particularly at the Government Science School in Obi Local Government Area.

“Government is going to do something in terms of structures and the equipment that are required in our own laboratories for all the science schools, to ensure that our students are well equipped and able to write their examinations comfortably”, he said.

The Interim Management Committee Chairman of Obi LGA, Sa’adatu Yahaya, who accompanied the Commissioner during the visit, noted that the school has become a shadow of itself.

“It is very disheartening, but what gladdens my heart is that the Commissioner of Education is here. He has seen everything for himself and I know he will pass the message to the Governor and there will be immediate intervention.

“It has actually been a problem, the school has been dilapidated for a very long time, there has been no maintenance culture and we really need government intervention,” she said.
