Police, Kidnap Suspect, Turkish School,The Imo State Police Command has appealed to traditional rulers in the state to support the community policing strategies adopted by the Nigeria Police Force.

The new Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, made the call at a meeting with the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers in Imo State, south-East Nigeria.

Mr Ezike, who spoke at the traditional ruler’s palace in Owerri, urged the Council to support the effort of the Police in fighting crime in the state.

He said the fight against crime should not be left in the hands of the security operatives, noting that their input in the fight against criminality in the state cannot be over emphasised.

The Police Commissioner stated that the Command is committed to bringing crimes especially cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery to its barest minimal in the state.

“We need your support, more importantly in combating the menace of kidnapping and cultism in the state.

“You people are the custodian of traditions and that makes you get closer to the people, you know about our community policing strategies and we want you to partner with the Nigerian Police.

“Fighting crime should not be left in the hands of security operatives alone, we need information to work and such information can only come from people like the traditional rulers,” he said.
