Britain’s most senior anti-terrorism officer said on Tuesday the raising of the country’s terror threat to critical meant major events would only take place if the authorities were satisfied with security.

Soldiers will be deployed to key sites in the country to boost security following the suicide attack in Manchester that killed 22 people, including children, on Monday night.

London’s Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said: “There are so many big events across the country over the next few weeks.

We’re going to be working really closely with the organizers to review their security, review their stewarding arrangements and review our policing arrangements and make sure decisions are taken that events only go ahead when it’s sensible and safe to do so.”

Among major events in the next month are the FA Cup Final at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday, the Derby horse race at Epsom on June 3 and the Glastonbury music festival which starts on June 21.
