Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, on Wednesday took to the streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital to protest the prolonged closure of the institution.

The protest, which led to a gridlock, left motorists stranded in their vehicles for over four hours as the students marched all the way to the state secretariat, Abeere.

Chanting solidarity songs, the students called on the governors of Oyo and Osun, the two owner states to quickly intervene in their plight as well as that of the workers.

According to them, the Osun State Government had failed to address their demands in providing its own part of the subvention for the institution.

After hours of the protest however, the students dispersed as no government official came out to address them.

Also, efforts to speak with the media aide to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Semiu Okanlawon proved abortive.

Earlier in the year, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities LAUTECH Ogbomoso chapter had suspended their nine-month strike bordering on salary issues, to allow the students write their first semester exams before resuming the industrial action, two months ago.
