97 Nigerians Deported From South AfricaThe Government of the United Kingdom on Wednesday, deported 35 Nigerians for committing immigration-related offences in the country.

The deportees, comprising 30 males and five females, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMlA) Lagos at about 5:50 a.m.

They were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Police.

All 35 deportees were said to have been given a stipend to help their transportation to their respective home states.

Apart from the recent deportation, 253 Nigerians who had been stranded in Libya were airlifted back into the country in April.

The returnees, comprising 242 adults and 11 children, arrived in Lagos State aboard a Libyan Airline plane.

A report by the Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service in Charge of Training and Manpower Development, Mr Maroof Giwa, revealed that between January and May 2017, 10,000 Nigerians had died while trying to illegally cross to Europe, in search of greener pastures.
