prisonThe Federal Government has declared Monday, May 29, as a public holiday to mark Democracy Day.

The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) made the declaration, a statement by Director Overseeing the Office of the
Permanent Secretary, Muhammadu Maccido, said.

Dambazau congratulated Nigerians and assured them that government would continue to make efforts to guaranty their safety.

According to him, guaranteeing security, revitalising the economy, and tackling corruption are the three main focus areas of administration of President Muhammedu Buhari.

“While a lot has been achieved in the area of security, particularly in the northeast, and in tackling corruption, recent statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics have shown tremendous improvement of the country’s GDP,” the statement read in part.

“No doubt, the nation is closer to getting out of recession, particularly with the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), which seeks to revitalise the nation’s economy soonest.”

It added that with the recently signed Executive Orders on Ease of Doing Business, the country’s doors have been opened wider for both domestic and foreign investors.
