Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has advised state governors to resist the temptation of playing politics with matters of security as the Federal Government pledges greater commitment to work with states to ensure peace and stability.
Speaking to governors at the fifth consultative meeting on the expressions of discontent by northern youths at the state house, Professor Osinbajo appealed to the governors to speak out forcefully against it or risk a degeneration of the situation.
The consultations follow the recent quit notice given to Igbos in the North by Arewa youths, in reaction to the continued agitation for secession by groups in the South East.
Professor Osinbajo also emphasised the need to address the herdsmen and farmers crisis in states, describing the problems as multi-dimensional and requiring urgent attention by state governors to resolve the disputes.
Some of the governors present included Kassim Shettima of Borno State, Simon Dalong of Plateau State and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The acting president had on Tuesday met with traditional rulers, asking them to advise misguided youths in their domains against divisive actions.
